The vision of the department of Finance is to develop skilled human resource with specialized education and training in finance. Since its inception in 1974, the department has been committed to cater to the needs of modern business world and has been producing executives and trained manpower with strong skills in finance, banking and insurance. The department offers four years B.B.A program and other post - graduate programs (Including M. phil. And Ph.D.) in Finance. With the growing demand for developing professionals in banking, the department offers banking as a major area in the masters program. Recently, the department has introduced evening MBA program for executives and professionals.
From the very beginning, the department of Finance has been devoted to academic excellence and uncompromising standard for which it has earned reputation. Faculty members are actively engaged in research and have many research publications to their credit. The expertises of teaching staff, research activities and dynamic curriculum have made the department a unique institution in and outside the university.
The department of Finance offers a four year BBA program. The program comprises of 120 credit hours spread over eight semesters. The program design is much different from BBA programs of other universities. Along with developing comprehensive understanding of the business economics and environment, the BBA curriculum of this department focuses more of Finance. The program is designed as one for terminal degree. The graduated are expected to get employment mostly in Finance sectors.
The MBA program comprises of 48 credit spread over two semesters. It is specialized and professional degree program. Students can major in one of the three concentration areas - finance, banking or insurance. The department of Finance, University of Dhaka, in the only institution in Bangladesh that offers MBA degree program in banking and insurance.
In order to fulfill the demand of the executives working in different organization for obtaining MBA degree, the department has introduced executive MBA program in the evening hours. Students can enroll in wither of the two specialty areas - Finance, and Banking and insurance. Class size of each group is 50. Admission takes place thrice a year. Executives with any academic background can apply for admission. Selection is made through a competitive process.
The department of Finance has a full - fledged placement office. The major functions of the placement office are: (a) to organize visits of the under graduate students to different organizations, industries, banks and insurance companies; (b) to secure place for the students to work as interns in different organizations; (C) to organize job fair for our graduated, (d) to publish brochures and documents for dissemination of information among the potential employers and (e) to invite distinguished scholars, pofessionlas and business executives on specific topics for enriching knowledge of our students under the monthly guest lecture series.
Internship is an integral part of our BBA and MBA programs. The objective of the program is to expose the students to the organizational work environment. Under this program, each student is required to work as an intern in a business organization, government office, bank or financial institution. The duration of internship program is one and half months for BBA students and three months for MBA students. As a part of the program, each student has to prepare a report under the supervision of a teacher of the department.
BBA program director is responsible for: (a) coordinating with the batch coordinators; (b) addressing the concerns of the students, (c) making the schedules for classes and exams, (d) initiating changes in academic curriculum, (e) administering academic programs, and (f) cooperating with the chairman in strengthening academic programs of the department
